Board of the Ordre

Mandate and attributes

The Board of the Ordre national du Québec is mandated to advise the Premier of Québec on appointments to the Ordre. Every year, it studies the nominations submitted to it following a public call for candidacies.

It upholds the Ordre’s integrity, image and reputation. With the Secrétariat de l'Ordre, it ensures the Ordre’s growth in keeping with the values of excellence, creativity and solidarity that constitute its grandeur and significance. To be eligible for election to the Council of the Order, you must have been a member of the Ordre national du Québec for at least three years.

Composition

The Board of the Ordre national du Québec is composed of nine people:

  • who have been inducted into the Ordre
  • from different regions of Québec
  • elected by all members of the Ordre

One-third of Board members are elected every year, for a three-year mandate, by the members of the Ordre. Every two years, a chairperson is designated by the Board from among its members. The chairperson cannot exercise consecutive mandates. He/she plays an important role with regard to order of precedence in the Québec government’s public ceremonies.
